Last month I had the opportunity to attend the Master Municipal Clerk Training at Cal State University San Marcos, an advanced program designed to strengthen the skills and leadership of City Clerks across California. As the Chief Deputy City Clerk for the City of Colton, continuing my education is not just a professional responsibility — it is a commitment to the people I serve.

City Clerks play a vital role in every city. We are the guardians of public transparency, the protectors of open government, and the stewards of ethical governance. From managing public records to overseeing elections, from ensuring compliance with state law to supporting the democratic process, the work of a City Clerk touches every resident, whether they realize it or not.

This training allowed me to sharpen my skills in areas that matter deeply to me:

  • Public transparency

  • Ethics and accountability

  • Open government practices

  • Professional standards in municipal administration

We explored best practices and the evolving responsibilities of municipal clerks in a rapidly changing world. Every session reinforced the importance of integrity, accuracy, and service — values I carry with me every day in my role.

I believe that strong cities are built on trust, and trust is built on transparency. That is why I invest in ongoing training and professional development. The people of District 33 deserve leaders who are prepared, knowledgeable, and committed to doing things the right way.

I left this training encouraged, equipped, and more determined than ever to uphold the highest standards of professionalism in public service. Our communities thrive when government is open, ethical, and accountable — and I am honored to play a part in ensuring that for the people I serve.
