Homeless Man Attacks Congressional Candidate with a Rock in Colton,CA
Colton, CA — April 16, 2026
Congressional Candidate, Stephanie Vargas, was seated in her vehicle while waiting in the Del Taco drive through line on Tuesday afternoon when a man, who appeared to be homeless, exited the restaurant and proceeded to throw a sharp rock at Vargas, hitting her car door. The impact left visible damage. According to Vargas, the man laughed before fleeing eastbound on Valley Blvd. Police were called immediately, but the suspect was not located.
Vargas expressed deep frustration with what she described as a growing public‑safety crisis tied to the region’s worsening homelessness challenges and democratic policies which are infamously lenient on crime. “No one should feel unsafe in their own neighborhood while lawless and brazen criminals are allowed to do as they please! Vargas declared.
She stated that incidents like this are exactly why she is running in the June 2nd Primary Election for Congress in District 33 — to push for stronger public‑safety measures and real common-sense solutions to homelessness. Vargas emphasized that residents “deserve better” and that restoring public safety remains one of her top priorities.
